Trial and Error

Two pairs of all-knowing eyes observe the ebb and flow of Marshall Street foot traffic from above. Inside the old brick building, you’ll find Duke and Jo; barbers who have been serving the students and faculty of Syracuse University for 96 semesters. Duke and Jo have clipped and shaved the heads of doctors who first came to them as undergraduates. Through spot conversations, and enduring friendships, the barbers of Marshall Street have mastered the history of Syracuse University, and even created some of their own.
However, the quality hair cuts and barbershop banter won’t persist eternally. The number of modern salons has trumped the population of next-generation barbers; a trade and a lifestyle that seems to be on its way out. But Duke and Jo don’t see it that way-They watch from their perch, guardians of Marshall Street, awaiting next year’s class of students and those to come.

Rain and the fearless model, Renee!

When things like finals and stopped paper production get in your way, getting your hands on a camera can be difficult. So when Daisy asked me to photograph a mutual friend for a painting-in-progress, I jumped at the chance. Sure, it was raining pretty steadily by the time we arrived at the Quad, but if water droplets are the only thing between me and photography, I’ll be the one who comes out drenched with a full CF card.

Renee was such a trooper-She went barefoot and donned that cute blue dress in windy rainy weather. Oh Syracuse…The photos were worth it though!
